I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main valve for your home. If you are unable to find the main valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the pipework and reduce the leak.

While you wait, begin wiping up any water, position a bucket to catch drips, and remove valuable items from the affected area. If the house water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
