I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

While you wait, start cleaning up any water, position a container to catch any drips, and clear away valuable things from the affected area. If the house water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, a lot of appliances and fixtures have their own isolating valves as well.
